Where it looks
On a Mac: each app's own Sparkle update feed, the Mac App Store, Homebrew casks, GitHub releases and macOS software updates. On Windows: winget, the Microsoft Store, Chocolatey and Scoop. Apps installed through more than one are shown once.
Nothing unverified gets installed
A Sparkle update installs only when its signature checks out. App Store updates are handed to the App Store, and package manager updates to the package manager, so each one is installed the way its maker intended.
You decide what goes online
Updates is the one module that has to go online. It lists every host it will contact before it checks, and each source can be switched off.

Questions
Does it update apps automatically?
No. It shows what is out of date, and you choose what to update.
Is updating included in the trial?
Yes. Updating apps does not need a licence during the trial.
Does it need Homebrew?
No. Homebrew is one source among several; if it is not installed, Bytesweep skips it.
