## See what's using your space

Clean removes junk. For your own big files, start with a map of the disk.

### Map your disk

On Mac

1. Open **What's using my space?**from**Free up space**.
2. Press **Scan Home Folder**, or**Choose a Folder…** for somewhere else.
3. Open the biggest item, and keep going down.
4. Found something you don't need? Press **Add to Cleanup**, then**Clean…**.

On Windows and Linux

1. Open **What's using my space?**from**Free up space**.
2. Choose the drive or folder to scan.
3. Open the biggest item, and keep going down. **File types**,**Age map**and**Largest extensions** show the same disk other ways.
4. Found something you don't need? Remove it from the list.

On Mac

### Stuck on System Data?

macOS's own **System Data** figure has [its own page](https://bytesweep.app/docs/clean/system-data.html) in ByteSweep.

#### Now try it on your computer

Scan your home folder and find your biggest folder.

##### If it doesn't work

A big scan takes a while, and you can stop it. On a Mac, closed folders show until you [allow Full Disk Access](https://bytesweep.app/docs/setup/permissions.html).
