## Put it back

Changed your mind? Cleaned files wait for 7 days, and Undo is free for good.

### Undo straight away

On Mac

After a clean, a bar shows what was freed and an **Undo** button for 12 seconds.

On Windows and Linux

Press **Undo cleanup** on the Clean page.

### Undo later

On Mac

1. Open **Undo & history**.
2. Open **Put back**.
3. Choose the cleanup and press **Put back**.

On Windows and Linux

1. Open **Undo & history**.
2. Open **Put back what was cleaned**.
3. Choose the cleanup and put it back.

If a newer copy of a file exists, that file is skipped so your newer one stays. Files on another drive go to that drive's Recycle Bin or Trash: restore those from there.

### How long files are kept

On Mac

7 days. Until then, cleaned files stay on the same disk in a hidden folder, so that space comes back when the 7 days end. To free it now, use **Delete for good…**, which can't be undone.

On Windows and Linux

7 days unless you change it, in Settings → **Cleaning & undo**→**Keep cleaned files for undo**. Choose**Off (delete immediately)**, or 1, 3, 7, 14 or 30 days.

Some things can't be put back, and ByteSweep says so before they go. See [what can't be put back](https://bytesweep.app/docs/clean/labels.html#what-cant-be-put-back).

#### Now try it on your computer

Put back the cleanup from the last lesson.

##### If it doesn't work

If the cleanup isn't listed, it may be past its keep time. On Windows and Linux, check it wasn't cleaned with **Off (delete immediately)** set.
