Bytesweep 2.0.0: Rebuilt as a native Mac app

Bytesweep 2.0 for Mac is written from scratch in Swift and SwiftUI. It is one universal app for Apple silicon and Intel Macs running macOS 14 Sonoma or later, with no Chromium inside, and it is signed and notarised by Apple. It asks for each macOS permission only when the module that needs it is opened, and there is still no account and no telemetry.

What is in it

• Storage analyzer. Treemap, sunburst, flame graph, bubbles and a sorted list of any disk or folder.
• Clean. Caches, logs and build outputs rated safe, review first or keep, with a 7-day undo.
• Duplicates. Identical files, similar photos and videos, and duplicate folders.
• Apps. Uninstall with every leftover, and find leftovers of apps already gone.
• Developer. Xcode, Docker, node_modules, Homebrew, pip, npm, Gradle and Cargo caches.
• Sleep and dark wakes. A nightly report of how often the Mac woke, which wakes happened with the lid shut, and what caused each one.
• Startup. Login items and launch agents, including ones that point at deleted apps.
• Updates. Apps that update through Sparkle, the Mac App Store, Homebrew casks and GitHub releases, in one list.
• Privacy. Which apps can use the camera, microphone, screen recording and your files.
• Dev Servers. Every Node, Python, Ruby, PHP, Java and Go server listening on your Mac, with its project folder, port and a Stop button.
• Recovery. Deleted files from USB sticks, SD cards, external drives and disk images.
• Monitor. CPU, memory, disk, network, GPU, battery, temperatures and fans, with history from five minutes to 30 days.
• Notch and menu bar. A small live graph in the menu bar and an optional panel under the notch.
• 14 languages, the same ones as this site.

Upgrading from 1.x

1. Download Bytesweep 2.0 and open the disk image. 2. Drag Bytesweep into Applications. When Finder says an item named Bytesweep already exists, choose Replace. 3. Open Bytesweep, go to Settings › Licence and paste the licence key you already have. 1.x keys activate 2.0; each computer uses one of the key's three activations.

2.0 keeps its own Undo history and does not see what 1.x set aside. If there is anything you might still want back from a 1.x cleanup, restore it from 1.x's Undo before you switch.

Staying on 1.x

• macOS 11 to 13: 2.0 needs macOS 14. Bytesweep 1.2.3 stays available for Big Sur, Monterey and Ventura. See macOS 11 to 13 on the install page.
• Linux: stays on 1.2.3 for now.
• Windows: coming soon.
