Bytesweep 3.1.1: A safer Clean, and a Dock icon while the window is open
Bytesweep 3.1.1 for Mac cleans only what is plainly safe and leaves the rest alone without asking you to judge it, and shows a Dock icon whenever its window is open.
Bytesweep 3.1.1 is a Mac update that comes from a customer's feedback. It makes Clean something you can trust without knowing how macOS works, and it makes the window easy to find again.
Clean: only what is plainly safe
- Nothing to judge. Clean checks every place it suggests on its own. What is plainly safe is cleaned. Anything it can't be sure about is left where it is and listed under "Left alone", with the reason in a few words. There is nothing for you to decide.
- Fewer false alarms. Caches that apps keep open, certificate files that tools download, and cache folders with names like "something.app" were reported as databases in use, keys and installed apps. They are caches, and are now cleaned as caches.
- Developer caches are cleaned whole. Xcode's DerivedData and npm's cache are cleaned together with the package downloads inside them, unless a key or a wallet is in there.
- Still kept safe. SSH keys, git projects, crypto wallets and files changed in the last day are never cleaned without you choosing them yourself. Everything cleaned can still be put back for 7 days.
A Dock icon while the window is open
- ByteSweep lives in the menu bar. Now, whenever its window is open or minimised, it also has a Dock icon, its own menu and a place in ⌘-Tab, so you can switch back to it like any other app. When you close the window, it goes back to the menu bar. Settings → Show in Dock keeps the icon all the time.
