## Bytesweep 3.2.2: Organize a folder, and see what System Data is

Bytesweep 3.2.2, for Mac, Windows and Linux, sorts a messy folder into tidy subfolders after showing you the plan, can keep it tidy, sorts photos by the place they were taken, and labels every Clean row Safe or Check first.

- Released 28 October 2026
- macOS, Windows, Linux

Bytesweep 3.2.2 is about tidying, not deleting. Point it at Downloads or any other folder and it shows you a plan of tidy subfolders before a single file moves. Undo puts everything back.

### Organize a folder

- **See the plan first.** Pick a folder and choose how to sort it: by kind (Pictures, Documents, Music…), by date (year, then month), by kind and then date, or photos by the place they were taken. Bytesweep shows every folder it would make and every file that would go there. Nothing moves until you press Organize.
- **Change the plan.** Untick any file or folder to leave it where it is, and rename any of the new folders.
- **Leave folders alone, or not.** Only loose files move unless you switch on "Also sort files inside folders". Apps and project folders are never opened.
- **Busy files stay put.** A file that is open in an app, still downloading or just changed is left where it is.
- **Undo.** One press puts every file back where it was and removes the folders Bytesweep made. Undo always works, with or without a licence.

### Keep it organized

- After you have organized a folder once, Bytesweep can keep it that way: new files are filed the same way, into the same folders, including any you renamed. It runs with the automatic check you turn on in Settings, and each run can be undone on its own from Undo & history.

### Photos by place

- Pictures go into one folder per trip, named after the town where they were taken, such as "Lisbon, September 2026". The location is read from the photo itself, and the town is looked up in a list that ships with Bytesweep, so nothing goes over the internet. Place names come from GeoNames (CC BY 4.0).

### Safe or Check first

- Every row in Clean now says **Safe**(whatever made it rebuilds it) or**Check first** (read it before you tick it). Rows marked Check first are never ticked for you.

### Mac: what System Data is

- macOS shows a large grey "System Data" bar in Storage settings and does not say what is in it. Bytesweep's new System Data page splits it into the parts it can measure, such as Time Machine local snapshots, iPhone backups, Mail downloads, developer caches and virtual machines, with what each one is and whether it is safe to clear.

### Windows: WSL and Docker disks

- The disks that WSL and Docker Desktop keep their files in grow but never shrink on their own. The For developers page now finds them and can compact them, which needs administrator rights and cannot be undone.

All of it in every language Bytesweep speaks.
