Bytesweep 2.0.1: A 3-day free trial, and updates from inside the app
Bytesweep 2.0.1 for Mac adds a 3-day free trial, updates itself from inside the app, and gives the notch panel Findings and Actions.
Bytesweep 2.0.1 is the first update to the native Mac app. You can now try it before you buy a licence, it updates itself from now on, and the panel under the notch does more than show numbers.
What is new
- A 3-day free trial. Download Bytesweep and scan everything for 3 days: storage, duplicates, apps, developer caches, sleep, startup items, privacy and the monitor. Cleaning, deleting, uninstalling and recovering files need a licence. There is no card and no account.
- After the trial. When the trial ends without a licence, the app keeps Settings, where you can enter a key, and Undo, so nothing you set aside earlier is ever out of reach. Everything else waits for a licence.
- Updates from inside the app. Bytesweep checks for a new version and installs it for you through Sparkle, the updater many Mac apps use. You no longer have to download a new disk image by hand. To check at any time, choose Check for Updates in the Bytesweep menu, or Check now in Settings.
- A smarter notch panel. Besides the overview, the panel under the notch now has Findings, the most useful things Bytesweep found, and Actions, one-click fixes for them. Findings and Actions need a licence.
- Longer finding titles fit. Titles in the notch panel and on the Dashboard wrap to two lines instead of being cut off.
- All 14 languages cover the new trial, notch and update text.
What goes online
The trial start is checked with bytesweep.app so that reinstalling does not restart it. The request carries a one-way fingerprint of the Mac and the trial start date, nothing else, and if the site cannot be reached the app carries on. Updates are fetched from bytesweep.app. There is still no account and no telemetry.
Upgrading
If you have 2.0.0, download 2.0.1 once from the download page and replace the app in Applications. Every later version installs from inside Bytesweep. Your licence key and your Undo history carry over.
